Popular pizza truck destroyed by accused drunk driver
GONZALES - The fire cooking a Baton Rouge vendor's pizza is out for good after an accused drunk driver crashed into the owner's trailer Tuesday night.
Bogdan Mocanu owns Dolce Vita and was driving back from an elementary school fundraiser in Gonzales when he was hit.
"She lost the lane I had to move my truck so it wouldn't damage me first and but I couldn't save the trailer so she hit the trailer very hard," Mocanu said.
Gonzales Police charged the driver with DWI and reckless driving. Officers said she was so disoriented they had to bring her to the hospital first.
Police said the BAC of the driver two hours after the crash was .176, more than twice the legal limit. Police also believe the driver may have been on drugs as well. A blood test is pending.
"No way in hell I can save this," Mocanu said.
The custom trailer Mocanu supports his family with is mangled from the outside in. His authentic brick oven is cracked. His workspace is in shambles.
"To order a new one will take about four months," he said. "I hope [customers] give me a little time to either build back something like this or a brick or mortar or both and they give me the benefit of 'oh he's back, I'm going to give him another shot.'"
