Popular boat landing still under repair
PRAIRIEVILLE - The boat landing at Fred's on the River, an Amite River hot spot, will remain under construction for the next few months.
In December, the business started construction to repair the landing, but work hasn't finished in time for one of the biggest boating weekends. It was supposed to be finished by March, but bad weather slowed construction.
"As far as the restaurant and everything, of course, it always helps to have the ramp accessible. We have a lot of people coming to park and a lot of children," said Fred's employee Donnie Marsh. "Especially with Easter weekend, we'd like to have it ready this weekend. We probably have another month and a half before it's ready."
Fred's says it's losing business without its boat landing open. Boaters we spoke with on the river say they're anxious for the landing to be finished.
"It's going to give us another alternative for the larger boat, and it's a one-stop-shop," said John Smith. "I mean at Fred's you get ice, drinks, gasoline and everything you need for your trip so you don't have to make multiple stops."
Fred's also built a new balcony that's connected to the bar.
