Police warn 5K run this weekend is a scam
BATON ROUGE - Police warned people Thursday that a group claiming to organize a 5-mile run in Baton Rouge this weekend is actually a scam.
Cpl. L'Jean McKneely said the Color Mile 5K run advertised for Saturday, May 2, was not a legitimate event.
People were warned not to sign up for the vent, which required a $50 entry fee or $45 per member team entry fee. The event's website says it is run by Color Mile LLC, and is a for-profit run. The address listed for check-in on the event is the Baton Rouge city hall on St. Louis Street.
Baton Rouge Police advised people not to sign up for the run, and if they signed up or paid money for the run to contact their local authorities and file a report.
In 2014 another Baton Rouge run event, Cosmic Run, was cancelled at LSU after the university sent organizes a cease-and-desist letter, saying the group had not met the requirements to host an event on campus. The Cosmic Run organizers moved the event and gave refunds to people who wanted them.
