Police: Rape victim stalked before kidnapping
BATON ROUGE- Investigators believe a 22-year old woman who was raped in Iberville Parish was stalked by 47-year old Michael Rushing in Livingston Parish immediately before the incident.
Investigators say, Rushing kidnapped the woman from a Medical Facility off Essen Lane and drove her near the ferry landing in Iberville Parish where the rape allegedly occurred. They believe he initially saw her outside of a gas station in Denham Springs.
According to investigators, they believe there could be more victims.
"There's always a possibility that he would become a suspect in the future based on DNA evidence we get on cold cases, and not only that he could be a suspect in a crime in another jurisdiction," Baton Rouge Police Corporal Thomas Stubbs said.
People in the community are also worried with the crime hitting so close to home.
"You just have to be aware, and say your prayers," Sara Morris said.
"I think it's extremely important to constantly be aware to be looking around not on cell phone or distracted, to constantly be aware," Kelly Henderson said.
Rushing is being held on a $300,000 bond.
