Police ID man found shot in ditch
BATON ROUGE - Police released the name of a man who they said was shot to death and found in a canal in Baton Rouge Friday morning.
Investigators said Kenneth Barton, 35, of Jackson, La. was shot during a break-in at a home on Cedar Avenue. A neighbor who heard the commotion told News 2 they heard it happen.
"It was a lot of bumping and going, like a body was hitting against a wall or something, wrestling or whatever," said Anna Harris.
Harris says she didn't recognize the visitor's vehicle in the driveway. In her 24 years of living there, she says many different cars go through there every day.
"They had cars there 24/7...they were running that kind of business I guess...where people's go in and out," she said.
Investigators said they found blood inside the home when they arrived, and then found Barton face down in a canal about 150 yards away.
"It's rough over here but it had cooled down, thats the first time somebody's gotten shot in a while," said Harris. "But I wish they'd straighten that stuff up around here."
"I'm thinking about moving, the beginning of the year," said Gabby Felder, another neighbor. "I was moving anyways but this done it."
Police haven't said why the victim was at the home, or how he knew the person who lived there. Barton's autopsy is expected early next week.
