Police confident body found is Mickey Shunick
EVANGELINE PARISH- Lafayette Police said they're confident, remains found about an hour from Lafayette, are those of Mickey Shunick.
Police were notified about the remains early Tuesday morning.
"The information was that... Mickey Shunick's body was buried about 100 yards beyond LA 10 down this roadway beyond a cemetery," said Lafayette Police Spokesperson Paul Mouton.
"The source and credible information is so exact that we feel very strongly that this is Mickey Shunick," Mouton said.
But, police will not comment on the source's identity.
Shunick's family said they wouldn't comment until they hear, officially, that the body is that of Mickey Shunick.
Shunick vanished in May, riding her bike home from a friend's house near downtown Lafayette. Her bike was found, damaged, under the I-10 Basin Bridge in Whiskey Bay.
Eventually, Brandon Lavergne was arrested for kidnapping and killing Shunick. Since his arrest, Lavergne was connected to a 13-year-old murder case.
Forensic experts from LSU are assisting. Police say it may take three days for the identification process to be completed.
