Police chase protocol detailed after deadly wreck

GONZALES- A day after a high-speed chase claimed the lives of two people trying to run from police more information is coming out on how police handle the dangerous situations.

Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson says his officers always have back up over the radios and in other jurisdictions waiting to assist if needed. He says his officers will relay information that could help determine when a chase is too dangerous to continue.

"He's letting them know if the traffic is light, heavy or medium, there's a number of things that he's giving out, and as a supervisor, or a shift supervisor, he's listening to it and giving directions to the leading officer," said Chief Jackson.

Jackson says in many cases the people being pursued won't yield, even after a chase is ended.

"They know we're equipped with radios and notifying other agencies and in my opinion I think they would continue to drive erradict and get away until they get to their safe haven," said Chief Jackson.

Police found hundreds of dollars worth of evidence in the crash.
