Petition: Parents want Prescott Middle returned
BATON ROUGE - A group of East Baton Rouge Parish parents is asking the Recovery School District to return the Prescott Middle School building to the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.
They are circulating an on-line petition that outlines their request, and said when RSD took over seven schools in the district it triggered an overcrowding problem at some EBR schools.
RSD currently uses the Prescott Middle building as office space.
RSD responded with a statement from a spokesperson: "The overcrowding in EBR schools is a symptom of a much bigger problem: the lack of a comprehensive plan to create real change for the lowest-performing schools in the parish. A plan to enroll kids close to home must also be a plan of greater opportunities for those children. The long-term solution for all Baton Rouge families and all problems faced by this school system starts with a plan for quality in the classroom."
