Parents get ready for school voucher fight
BATON ROUGE - A lawsuit to stop the school vouchers goes to court next month.
But parents of students benefiting from the vouchers met at Hosanna Christian School to look at ways to fight the suit.
Hosanna has a large number of students on the voucher program and parents involved only had positive things to say about it.
"I've seen the progress, [my daughter] has really improved and she's asked me ‘mom please don't change my school again'," said Patsy Shropshire of her daughter's enrollment at Hosanna.
But the Louisiana Association of Educators, one of the organizations fighting vouchers, says more than just students on scholarships are affected.
"It's really about the fact that the 99 percent that did not apply for those vouchers are being cut short," said Joyce Haynes, president of the LAE.
Both sides say they're ready to take on the issue when it goes before the judge at the end of November.
