Parents charged in death of bruised, bitten child
BATON ROUGE - Authorities announced the parents of an 8-year-old boy who died and was found with dozens of bruises and a bite mark will be booked on charges of first-degree murder today.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's office released their findings from the autopsy of Xzayvion Riley, who died Wednesday. The coroner found he died from overwhelming infections, caused by a ruptured bowel that came from blunt force trauma to the abdomen.
The coroner said there were more than 60 signs of recent and remote trauma, including bruises, abrasions and a human bite mark.
Sheriff's deputies initially arrested the boy's parents, 46-year-old Michael Robertson and 32-year-old Lavaughn Riley, in suspicion of cruelty to a juvenile. They said Riley admitted to beating Xzayvion, and the boy's sibling told them Robertson also beat him and would bite him as a form of discipline.
Robertson denied he caused any of the boy's injuries.
