Paraplegic adventure athlete refuses to slow down

BATON ROUGE - A motivational athlete visited Baton Rouge this week to encourage you to get up and get moving.

Mark Wellman was paralyzed in a mountain climbing accident, but he hasn't let that stop him from doing what he loves. He visited the Baton Rouge Rehab Center Tuesday and climbed a rock wall to show what you can do if you put your mind to it.

"These people have gone through an accident or an illness," Wellman says. "They've lost something they're used to having."

Wellman was the first paraplegic to climb El Capitain, an 3,200 ft. tall granite cliff in Yosemite National Park. The treck took him eight days and over 7,000 pull-ups! He was also a member of the U.S. Disabled Ski Team and carried the flaming torch up an 120 ft. rope to light the cauldron for the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta.
