Online impersonation bill heads to Senate

Related Story

BATON ROUGE- A senate committee approved a bill making it illegal to create a face website, e-mail or Facebook account with the intention of hurting someone.

State Representative Helena Moreno, D- New Orleans, says eight other states have passed similar legislation within the last two years.

Some say the bill does not cover enough.  Mark Fruge says he became involved with a minor who posted bogus information about her age and background on an adult dating website.

Fruge says he is now a registered sex offender and would like to see laws address this type of scenario.

The committee did not alter Moreno's bill.  Senator Jonathan Perry, R- Kaplan, says he will support an independent bill dealing with Fruge's concerns.

Moreno's online impersonation bill now goes to the senate floor.
