BATON ROUGE - Worn and tattered flags were retired Tuesday night during a 9-11 Remembrance and Flag Retirement Ceremony in Baton Rouge.

Boy Scouts from Troop 888 collected over 100 flags from the community that can no longer fly.

The Boy Scouts and the U.S. military are among the few who can properly retire flags. The flags are either cut into pieces or laid flat and burned to ashes.

The flags were carried by Scouts over a bed of wood and set on fire, honoring the men and women who sacrificed their life.

"We thank you for our country and this flag, and for the liberty in which it stands," one Scout said.
