BATON ROUGE - Police in Baton Rouge said one of their officers was attacked and bitten by a pit bull while responding to a disturbance at a home.

A spokesperson for BRPD said one of their officers responded to a call about a disturbance on Dutton Ave. this afternoon. The officer and the dog's owner were outside talking when police said the pit bull bit the officer from behind.

Animal control representatives said they've visited the same home five times before, citing the owner for cruelty, poor living conditions and malnourishment.

Neighbors told News 2 the attack doesn't surprise them.

"The dog be running back and forth all the time in the yard," said Jamaica Hayes. "Try to bite the mailman, the mailman doesn't want to deliver our papers anymore."

BRPD says the officer is doing okay. Animal Control says the dog's owner faces a number of fines and a possible misdemeanor.
