No more free parking during SU home games
BATON ROUGE - Southern University will no longer allow free parking on campus during home game days.
As many Jaguar fans make their way to get tickets to Southern Universities game this weekend, university officials want to let fans know if you do not have a reserved parking pass or if you're not a student, You'll have to pay $10 to park anywhere on campus.
"We hope this helps us financially as well but we're definitely looking at the safety and protecting the perimeter of the university," said Roman Banks, Basketball coach and temporary interim athletic director.
University officials said they believe this will also help with contra flow of traffic during packed homes games.
Many fans said they don't mind pushing out the extra cash for Southern.
"It's a good idea if you're going to be guaranteed a good parking spot," said Lee Jones, who's been tailgating since he graduated in 1957.
The new fee was passed by the University's board a year ago. The charge kicks in Saturday when the Jags host Jackson State.
