No cases of West Nile reported in Louisiana
BATON ROUGE - There's good news for people in Louisiana fighting the bite; fewer mosquitoes are testing positive for West Nile Virus.
This is normally the time of year when mosquitoes would test positive for the deadly disease.
Mosquito control has 33 traps throughout East Baton Rouge Parish which are checked weekly for mosquitoes with West Nile. The results for this week showed no cases of the virus.
"Last year we already had mosquitoes that were testing positive. We were estimating their population, five out of every thousand were testing for West Nile," said Randy Vaeth with EBR Mosquito Abatement and Rodent Control.
West Nile Virus has been detected in neighboring states like Mississippi and Texas. For more on the virus and prevention, visit the state Department of Health and Hospital's website.
