New school brings hope for "F" district
GREENBURG - The Saint Helena Parish School District is one of the worst-performing school districts in the state, but plans for a new school could help turn things around.
The district has been under fire for years for deplorable conditions and failing schools. They were still rated "F" under the state's new school performance rankings released Thursday, did show signs of improvement and were only four points away from scoring a "D."
With a new school building on the horizon, the district believes next year they'll improve even more.
"This time next year, the kids will be in a brand new school, and I know it will have a major impact on their success next year," said Superintendent Dr. Kelli Joseph.
The district plans to break ground on the new high school tomorrow around noon.
