New Livingston garbage service at center of debate
DENHAM SPRINGS - Jack Fridge is owner of the Livingston Waste trash service. He also drives the only truck in his operation.
Hundreds of homeowners, mostly in the Watson area, have signed up for his service which features twice-per-week collection and a free recycling program.
Fridge's company has temporarily stopped expansion plans, after he says he applied for and received several different permits he was told he needed before starting his company. Some parish leaders, however, say he does not meet a parish ordinance for collection.
It requires a garbage collector to offer things like parish-wide service. Fridge says he would not be able to operate in areas like Maurepas and Killian without charging more.
Livingston Waste is seeking changes to the ordinance in order to expand. The company continues to service current clients. Fridge says he is optimistic he can work out a resolution with the parish.
