ST. AMANT- A deadly crash in Ascension parish leaves some wondering if safer roads could have prevented it.

Two children died after the car 28-year-old Raelyn Encalade was driving ran off Stringer Bridge road this morning.

Faith Encalade, 9, and Patience Lobell, 7,  became trapped in the car; while Encalade and two other small passengers in the car managed to escape thanks to a good Samaritan.

Henry Graham lives near the scene and says guard rails may have prevented the deadly accident. He explains "Well they used to have reflectors, and there used to be a guard rail on here...I think that would've helped to slow some folks down."

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

News 2 spoke to a Department of Transportation representative and he gave us the follwing statatment from DOTD:

The safety of the traveling public is the number one priority for DOTD. DOTD reviews all major incidents to determine if safety improvements are feasible and warranted. DOTD will evaluate this area to determine if improvements need to be made.

DOTD also says it's looking into whether there was a guardrail on that road in the past.
