Mother remembers son who died in Black Bayou

ST. AMANT- Many in St. Amant are still in shock after a wreck on Stringer Bridge road ended with two young children losing their life.

News 2 spoke to a mom whose son died in the same spot four years ago. Denise Marchard says her heart sank when she heard the sirens Tuesday night.

"I went outside to see which direction they were going. When I realized they turned the curve I immediately knew," she said.

Her son, 19-year-old Jody Bourgeois, 19, was reported missing on March 22nd, 2008. Two weeks later his father found him off of Stringer Bridge Road.

"His daddy was walking all across the street and he came across some old tire tracks," she said.  "He stopped right by the bayou. We called police and eventually we found that a car in that water, and it was Jody's."

Now Marchand says she's joining the fight to put guardrails up along the road.

"You never get over it, never ever," she said. "I hope... someone puts some rails up or signs. Just something."

Marchand tells News 2 her heart goes out to Raelyn Encalade. The 28-year-old lost her two daughters; Faith Castilaw and Patience Lobell, when the car she was driving went into the bayou earlier this week.  Encalade and two other children in the car made it out alive.

Bourgeois left behind a 14-month old son, now five years old. Marchand says she's using the two wrecks as a lesson for him.

"He needs to know what happened," she said.  "We keep a cross out there and just hope that someone will realize to slow down because it is a dangerous road."

DOTD says it's evaluating the area to determine if improvements need to be made.
