BATON ROUGE - The mother who has been arrested for leaving her newborn baby in the trash at a Walmart bathroom in New Roads has been transferred to the Pointe Coupee Parish jail and booked on attempted second degree murder.

The mother, 34-year-old Kyandrea Thomas, was arrested on Friday after she checked herself into the Lane Memorial Hospital in Zachary.

Thomas was being held at the East Baton Rouge Parish jail since Friday and was transferred on Tuesday morning to Pointe Coupee Parish.

Following a 30-minute interview with investigators, Thomas said that she was working as a holiday Salvation Army greeter at the Walmart and went to the bathroom after she felt sick. She then checked her self into the hospital after delivering the baby in the bathroom. According to investigators, Thomas claims that she did not know she was pregnant.

The baby girl was found unresponsive on Friday, however after she was taken to the Pointe Coupee General Hospital, doctors said that she was in stable but critical condition. As of Tuesday, the baby is being treated at Woman's Hospital.

Investigators say that the amount of Thomas' bond will be known within 72 hours.
