More stores opening Thanksgiving Day

BATON ROUGE - Add two more stores to the list of those opening on Thanksgiving Day, ahead of the Black Friday rush.

After 155 years of being closed on Thanksgiving Day, even Macy's will open. The store says it's opening early to appeal to customers who want to shop after time with their families.

JCPenney announced today it'll be open on Thanksgiving Day as well. Walmart, Target, Sears, Kmart, and ToysRUs started opening on Thanksgiving in recent years.

Some shoppers told News 2 they aren't fans of the holiday creep.

"Nobody is even bothering to remember the real reason for the season's that we have which is a matter of thanksgiving and appreciation for all of the wonderful things that we have going on in this country," said Richard Garwood.

Others said there may be a silver lining to the extended shopping experience.

"I feel like it is safer for the general public because it doesn't encourage all those mad rushes and it's more convenient for people who have to work on Friday," said Gina Wilson. "I don't know how it's set up, if it's optional if employees work or not, but that certainly would be something that would make it better for them, some people might want the overtime."

Both Macy's and JCPenney will open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
