More cable barriers being installed along I-10 corridor
GONZALES- More cable barriers are being installed along Interstate 10 between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
The barriers are designed to keep traffic from crossing from one side of the interstate to the other, preventing head-on collisions. More than 80 miles of interstate along I-10 and I-12 will be covered once all of the projects are complete.
The barriers cost about $200,000 per mile to install. The state is getting most of the money from federal safety funds. The total costs for the new work is about $2.7 million dollars.
Some drivers tell News 2 this is a good investment. Others say they would like to see the money used for other road projects.
