Money issues continue for Livingston animal facility

LIVINGSTON PARISH - A facility to house dangerous dogs in Livingston Parish has become what parish leaders call a "doggie hotel."

"I tell everybody we don't have a shelter," said facility director Sam Digiralamo. "We have a shelter - a hotel - it's turned into a hotel."

Digiralamo says the adoption numbers are good, but the number of dogs coming in is still high.

Despite the population of 40-60 dogs a month, there's a strict budget.

"We're going to spend what we got, and that's it," said Digiralamo.

Councilman Marshall Harris questions whether or not the facility should be open.

"The problem is, we opened something that we shouldn't have ever done without recurring revenue," said Marshall. "We shouldn't have opened it."

The council plans to discuss the budget next week, and prepare a stiffer budget, for animal control.
