Monday morning video forecast

Expect this week to be chilly and quiet. Monday morning will go down as one of the coldest mornings of the week.

THE FORECAST:

Today and Tonight: Your Monday will be chilly with a high near 62. Skies will be mainly sunny, some clouds may pass from time to time. Overnight will still be chilly but not as cold as the previous with a low near 44. Again, a few clouds are possible.

Up Next: The Baton Rouge area will warm up slightly into Tuesday; however, another front will reinforce the cold air mass soon after. While we may see a few clouds in advance of the front, very little, if any, rain is expected. This front will keep temperatures below average through Sunday. Thanksgiving may well be the chilliest afternoon with highs struggling to reach 60 despite sunshine. Friday morning will be another one in the 30s, so if you plan to go shopping early in the morning, bring some warm clothing.

At this time, the weather is looking close to perfect for LSU's final home football game as well as the Bayou Classic in New Orleans. Highs will be close to 70 degrees with clear skies.

The Tropics: The Atlantic Basin is quiet; no tropical development is expected over the next 5 days. The official hurricane season ends in 14 days.

THE EXPLANATION:

Into Tuesday morning, temperatures will be slightly warmer than Monday morning, but likely fall considerably in southwest Mississippi and river drainage areas in southeast Louisiana. Forecast models show a broad trough moving into the middle of the country from Canada to the Gulf coast tonight. A split flow pattern will begin developing by Tuesday afternoon. Amplification of both troughs will occur as a reinforcing cold front passes through the region Tuesday night. This should occur before moisture returns to the forecast area, which means any rain chances will just be for the coastal waters. This frontal passage will end what little moderation occurs on Tuesday and bring temperatures back down to a good 5 to 10 degrees below average Wednesday though the end of the week. The region will generally remain under a trough through the weekend. This will keep rain chances out of the picture and temperatures at to slightly below normal.
