BATON ROUGE- In an emergency, the three to five minutes between when you dial 911 and when EMS arrives can be the difference between life and death. The Red Stick Mom's Blog wants everyone to learn how to perform CPR so you can be ready when disaster strikes.

The Red Stick Mom's Blog is teaming up with the American Heart Association and Baton Rouge General to teach infant and child CPR to mothers in the capital area.

CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is a skill that's used to respond to heart attacks, trauma, overdose or drowning. According to the American Heart Association, effective bystander CPR can double or triple a victim's chance of surviving.

A free CPR class is being held at Baton Rouge General Medical Center Monday, September 21st from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A nutritionist, chef and dietician will also be at the event to provide moms with healthy eating tips to take home.

In order to attend the CPR class you must sign-up online. You can register for the event here.
