Missing man found shot, killed
BERWICK - Family members of a man reported missing in St. Mary Parish told News 2 he was found shot to death earlier Thursday.
A sheriff's office spokesperson said deputies found a body along Highway 182 in Berwick Wednesday, and shut down the highway while they investigated.
The victim's father, Willie Webb, told News 2 that his son, 23-year-old Willie Francis of Bayou Vista, was found shot dead and dumped in the area. Sheriff's deputies confirmed the body was Francis later Thursday evening.
"I got the call around noon," Webb said.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office reported Francis missing earlier Thursday. They said in a press release they found Francis' vehicle parked on U. S. 90 near the Cameron Iron Works, with the engine running but nobody inside. They said he was last heard from Tuesday night around 10:30 p.m.
Webb told News 2 a different story. He said Sunday afternoon he filed a report with the Morgan City Police Department after a group of men threatened to kill him and his son.
"Three guys came off a porch and approached me and my son," Webb explained. "One had a gun in his pants. He pulled it out, put it in my window and fired but nothing came out. Then went to my son and pulled the trigger and nothing came out again."
Webb said that day he gave investigators names of suspects and a full description of the events. The incident report shows police classified it as aggravated assault.
Webb believes his son's murder could have been prevented had investigators followed up on the events from Sunday.
