Meeting tonight over landfill permit application
BATON ROUGE - Two Metro Council members scheduled a community meeting Monday night to provide information about a company applying for a landfill permit in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Trae Welch and Chauna Banks-Daniel scheduled the meeting to discuss the application by Louisiana Land Acquisitions, a company which has been trying since 1997 to build a privately-owned landfill to handle industrial solid waste in the parish.
The proposed site for the landfill is the north side of Brooklawn Drive, about two miles west of Scenic Highway and near the parish public landfill.
The Metro Council opposed previous applications by the company, raising concerns about the safety of the project. This is the company's third attempt to get a permit for the location.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Mount Bethel Baptist Church on Scenic Highway. Representatives from the company and the Department of Environmental Quality have been invited to attend.
News 2's Michael Shingleton will have more on this situation tonight.
