Matassa, Cointment headed for Ascension Parish president runoff
ASCENSION PARISH – The race for Ascension Parish president hasn’t ended just yet.
Gonzales City Council member Kenny Matassa advanced to a runoff against businessman Cloint Cointment. Ascension Parish Councilman Chris Loar followed behind at 22 percent, while Ricky Diggs finished with 8 percent and Clarence Henry Jr. finished with 7 percent.
Outgoing Parish President Tommy Martinez announced in 2012 he would not seek another term to the seat. The parish is one of the fastest-growing in the state, and the incoming parish president faces a greater demand for infrastructure and residents who rejected attempts to raise taxes.
Matassa and Cointment will face each other in the general election on Nov. 21.
