Mardi Gras Safety Tips
BATON ROUGE - With just two days of Mardi Gras celebrations remaining, State Police say now isn't the time to slack when it comes to safety. Here are some tips to keep you and your family safe.
It's important to have a game plan. You should know the parade route, including which streets are blocked off so you can get where you need to go. You should also expect delays if you're headed to New Orleans. If you're running late, don't just park anywhere. You'll likely get towed if you park in a "No Parking Zone".
State Police Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson says its also important to remember it's a family holiday.
"Keep your eyes on those kids because they just want to get the beads. They're going to run around and they're not paying attention to the float itself and what's behind them," he told News 2's Rebecca Buchanan this morning on 2une In. "Even when that one float goes by, another one is right there."
Before you leave for the festivities, Col. Edmonson also recommends making sure you have a full tank of gas because you could be in traffic. You should also check and make sure your tires are in good shape so you don't get stranded.
State Police are expecting a record number of parade-goers over the next two days.
