BATON ROUGE - Police released the name of the man who was shot in a firefight with Baton Rouge officers this weekend, as well as the officers who were involved.

A BRPD spokesperson said Kevin Knight, 28, was shot multiple times in the torso but is expected to survive.

Police said Knight was involved in a domestic disturbance in the 5200 block of Jackson Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. When officers responded to the scene they said Knight drove by and attempted to elude officers.

Investigators said Knight lost control of his vehicle and hit a house in the 5100 block of Washington Avenue. After the wreck police said Knight began shooting at them while fleeing on foot. The officers returned fire, hitting him several times.

According to court records, Knight was convicted in 2012 of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and required to register as a sex offender.

The BRPD spokesperson said three recent academy graduates and three veteran officers they were assigned to were involved in the shooting. They include:

- Paul Brown, an eight-year BRPD veteran
- James Crisler, a three-year BRPD veteran
- Howie Lake, a two-year BRPD veteran
- Sirtelli Dorsey, recent academy graduate
- Todd Thomas, recent academy graduate
- Curtis Wilson, recent academy graduate

The six officers were placed on administrative leave, per department protocol. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
