Man recorded fighting in traffic died hours later in car crash
GONZALES - A man videoed fighting with another driver in traffic Friday died hours later in a crash in Ascension Parish.
State Police reported Daniel Walker, 31, died when he drove his small sedan into a tree after losing control on Hwy. 431 near Airline Highway around 9:30 Friday night. Investigators said Walker ran off the road in a curve, into a ditch then careened into a tree. Walker was thrown from the vehicle and died, police said.
Before the wreck, Walker was recorded fighting with another man at the Highland Road exit on I-10.
In numerous posts on Walker's Facebook, he wrote he was embarrassed about fighting and in a picture, asked God for forgiveness and to judge his heart, not his actions.
The video, first reported by WBRZ.com HERE, showed two men in fighting in traffic sometime Friday afternoon. Witnesses recorded the altercation from another vehicle and posted it on the internet where it went viral. The two men in the video exchange punches and what appears to be an older man loses his hat and falls to the ground before a sheriff's deputy breaks up the fight.
In the video, the man purported to be Walker, gets into the same vehicle described in the Ascension crash.
The sheriff's department said the two men in the fight were issued a court summons.
Amid posts about forgiveness and friends' support are posts about Walker's death and memorial messages. Among the posts is a link to a Go Fund Me page set up for Walker's expenses.
About the crash, State Police said impairment is unknown and a toxicology sample will be tested by authorities.
