BATON ROUGE - A jury convicted a man of a Valentine's Day murder three years ago.

Friday, Erick Scott was found guilty of killing Kevin Johnson. Johnson was in a car, stopped at a red light on North Acadian Thruway and South Choctaw in February 2012 when he was shot.

The driver of the car was not injured and testified in the trial. She told jurors she saw Scott pull the trigger.

Scott is also implicated in the October 2011 killing of Justice Thompson.

In 2014, authorities said Scott hired a friend, Christopher Smith, to kill witnesses related to his criminal investigations.

According to a WBRZ.com story of the allegations related to the hired hits, Scott wrote, "I need the job done because they tryna [sic] get me on some g - expletive" ... and "don't let nobody see this letter." Officers said they found the letter in Smith's trash.

For the Johnson murder, Scott faces a mandatory life sentence.
