Man arrested in tailgate assaults
BATON ROUGE - A man was arrested Wednesday, accused of molesting a 16-year-old girl on LSU's campus after a tailgate Saturday.
The girl told detectives Daniel Sanchez, 47, of Gonzales and her family were tailgating for the Mississippi State game and the entire group made arrangements to sleep in the same bed in an RV. The girl's mother told police the sleeping arrangement was not unusual because Sanchez had been a friend of the family for 14 years.
According to a police report filed by LSU officers, once the girl went to bed Sanchez followed close behind her while everyone was still outside the RV. The girl told officers while she was sleeping Sanchez molested her and she a pain in her pelvic region Sunday morning.
She told her parents what happened and they took her to the hospital.
While talking to LSU Police, the victim said Sanchez allegedly touched her inappropriately before.
"The same suspect had attempted similar activities the previous weekend on the 13th for the previous game, again in the tailgate area in their RV," Capt. Cory LaLonde said.
Police said the girl did not mention the previous assault because she thought Sanchez was drunk and made a mistake.
Sanchez is charged with two counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile and two counts of sexual assault. He was arrested by deputies in Ascension Parish then taken to LSU Police headquarters and was expected to be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
