BATON ROUGE - The is luggage rolling in, beds are being lofted and students at LSU and Southern University are moving in.

Another move-in day is in the books for Baton Rouge's two major college campuses.

Despite heavy rains and muggy conditions, most parents and their children had smiles on their faces — especially the freshmen.

"I'm looking forward to being independent ... being able to grow on my own," incoming LSU freshman Joseph Miraben said.

As is tradition, LSU athletes were lending a hand all over campus.

Over at Southern, the returning Jags were helping the incoming freshmen carry things from cars to rooms all over campus.

Members of Southern's NPHC organizations agreed that today is a vital step in making sure students feel comfortable in their own space, making it easier to adjust to life as a Jaguar.

For both prestigious universities, move-in day has always been a big event and they certainly treat it as such.

Classes for both LSU and SU begin on Monday, August 21.
