LSU football star Billy Cannon rushed to hospital
ANGOLA - LSU athletics officials confirmed that former Tiger football star and Heisman Award winner Billy Cannon was rushed to the hospital today after suffering a stroke.
Cannon, the 15-year director of Angola State Penitentiary's dental program, was rushed by ambulance from the prison according to Angola officials.
Herb Vincent, spokesperson for LSU Athletics, said that Cannon's family told him the 75-year-old was alert and resting, and he will remain in the hospital overnight for observation.
"Billy has a special place in LSU history," Vincent said. "The University wishes him well and will provide any support it can. "
Cannon won the Heisman in 1959 and played for the American Football League. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
