LSU band purchasing 500 tickets to play at championship
BATON ROUGE - It's costing a pretty penny to get the Golden Band from Tigerland into the stands for the BCS National Championship game.
The LSU Athletic Department anticipates spending close to $500,000 to get the band to New Orleans for the game. That includes buying about 500 tickets at face value, an estimated $185,000.
The school won't be footing the bill, though. The SEC gave LSU $2.5 million dollars to cover BCS expenses, including the band's costs.
"The band is pretty much required to be there, we want the band there, we have to pay the price," said Brian Broussard with the LSU ticket off. "I mean that's part of being in that game. We wouldn't want it any other way."
The past two times the Tigers were in the championship game they played from the sidelines. But with recent renovations to the Superdome, there's not enough room.
