Livingston road overlaying finished for now
DENHAM SPRINGS - The Livingston Parish road overlay project is nearly finished as contractors striped several roads Tuesday.
The more than $4 million project overhauled around 40 roads across Livingston Parish. The parish ended up cutting costs and saving $350,000 along the way, according to Department of Public Works Director Sam Digirolamo.
"I think it's been very successful. We've had a little bit of aches and pains, and we've been a little bit of nuisance to our taxpayers," he said. "But at the end of the day I think they're proud of what we're doing."
That penny-pinching gives the parish wiggle room for more improvements. Earlier this year, parish leaders came up with another $1 million for road work and allotted 75 percent of that to overlay existing roads like Duff Road, Perkins Road and Courtney Road. Work on those roads will begin in January.
About 20 other roads are awaiting funding for phase two of the overlay project.
