Letter leads to courthouse lockdown
BATON ROUGE - Authorities locked down a floor of the district courthouse in Baton Rouge today after they said a suspicious letter was found.
Curt Monte with the Baton Rouge Fire Department said the lockdown was lifted around 12:30 p.m., after a HazMat team tested the letter and found no dangerous substances.
The lockdown affected only the third floor of the 19th Judicial District Courthouse, where the mail room is located.
Sheriff's deputies closed North Boulevard in front of the courthouse during the lockdown. The street has since been re-opened.
Authorities would not say who the letter was addressed to. The investigation was handed over to the FBI.
