Let's get loud
BATON ROUGE - LSU fans and the sounds of a game in Tiger Stadium are getting louder, especially with the addition of the new end zone.
About 100,000 people packed the stadium last Saturday. The additional fans and the new sound blew created noise that blew people away. But, it's not all great noise. There is some concern the noise level could reach new heights this season when there is a big play. Last weekend's game set a learning curve for LSU athletics.
"As we get the fans, as they sit down, as we go throughout the season, we're going to be able to adjust," said Senior Associate Athletic Director Eddie Nunez. "We're hoping by the Mississippi State game and others, that we'll really have it down to a science."
Years prior, the sound was big, but lost through the south end zone. But, with the stadium expansion, the sound reverberates around the stadium. The Assistant Director of Athletic Facilities and Grounds, Terrance Bold, agrees it's louder than ever.
"[The noise is] Like nothing I've ever heard before," said Bold. "It was amazing. So much better, so much more detailed, so much more bass."
"Fans, audio, everything, I mean, it's incredible how much louder the stadium is with that end zone keeping it all in," said Bold.
The LSU Tigers are used to the sound, but Nunez says the visiting team with have their work cut out for them on the field.
"We are doing everything we can to make it difficult for the visiting team, in all aspects," he said.
Saturday, LSU plays the University of Louisiana-Monroe. The Tigers will be playing for their 400th home win. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:02 p.m. and the game will be televised by ESPNU.
