LDWF: Two caught with dead gator at swamp tour
PRAIRIEVILLE - Authorities arrested two men after they said the pair broke into a swamp tour facility, stole an ATV and shot one of their alligators.
Agents with the La. Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and Ascension Parish sheriff's deputies arrested Jason Causey, 23, of Gonzales and Shane Knapp, 23, of Baton Rouge after the incident at Alligator Bayou Tours early Monday morning in Prairieville.
Investigators responded to an anonymous tip at 12:10 a.m. Monday that someone was out at the property illegally. They said they heard a four-wheeler and gunshots in the area, then found Causey and Knapp using an Alligator Bayou Tour ATV to tow a dead 10-foot alligator back to their truck.
Investigators said the pair told them they were out fishing in Bayou Manchac when they cut through a lock on the fence to get onto the property. They'd also illegally killed a bullfrog on the property.
The two face gun and property damage charges from the sheriff's office, as well as illegal hunting charges from LDWF for the alligator and bullfrog. The charges could carry thousands of dollars in fines and several years in jail, if they are convicted.
News 2's Michael Shingleton will have more on these arrests and the damage done at Alligator Bayou Tours tonight at 5 and 6.
