LDWF Staging Area

BATON ROUGE - Wildlife agents moved equipment and other resources into place in case they're needed to rescue people as Hurricane Isaac comes through Louisiana.

The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries set up several staging areas for equipment, where agents and boats can get fuel and supplies during the storm.

Lt. Joseph Arnaud with LDWF said their guys will be ready to handle search and rescue operations.

"The public has a certain image of us being out there to do certain things, but we are the lead agency in search and rescue," Arnaud said. "Our guys are highly trained and they're ready to respond as needed."

Several of the agents have family who are taking their own precautions during this storm.

"I left Washington Parish and had to leave my family behind... but I prepared," said Sgt. Darryl Galloway. "We do have anxiety too. But you've got to set that aside because there are a lot more people out there depending on us, not just our family."

Agents said the best thing people can do is pay attention to and follow all evacuation orders and curfews.
