Lawmakers to discuss expanding medical marijuana regulation

BATON ROUGE - Louisiana legislators will discuss expanding regulations of medical marijuana for more patients on Wednesday.
Some lawmakers are seeking to expand the regulations to include epilepsy patients.
Last year, state lawmakers legalized cannabis oil, a form of medical marijuana. This medicine has very low level of THC, a marijuana component that gets people high. However, the current law only allows the drug to be prescribed for a handful of conditions, not including epilepsy.
Katie Corkern, a supporter of the expansion, plans to testify on behalf of her son. Her son had a severe epilepsy and was prescribed to dangerous medications with side effects.
Legislators are expected to discuss the bill in depth on Wednesday.
