BATON ROUGE - The local police department and the FBI are heading up a new initiative to quickly handle child abductions.

They're working with multiple law enforcement agencies in different parishes to create a team for our geographic area known as "J-CARD".  It stands for the Joint Child Abduction Rapid Deployment.

So far, more than 10 agencies are taking part in the initiative including Louisiana State Police, eight sheriff's offices and three police departments.

"In an unfortunate incident of a child being abducted, we want to be able to find them in a quick to two to three-hour time frame," said Lt. Jared Sandifer, State Troop A. "As law enforcement officers and first responders we're all about training courses and trying to learn new things."

Initial training and team development has started this week in Port Allen and will continue untill April 17th. Special agents from New Orleans will be in attendance and participating in field training exercises.
