Judge grants injunction to shut down group home

BATON ROUGE - Months after a group home was featured in reports by the WBRZ Investigative Unit, a judge granted an injunction Tuesday to close a group home run by Eric Davenport.
State Fire Marshal Butch Browning said his office made an inspection at the site last month and found there were no working smoke detectors or fire extinguishers. The building was shut down, but when investigators went by the next day it was still open.
The operator, Eric Davenport, was cited for it along with driving with a suspended license.
"They were violating the state's fire code," Browning said. "We immediately issued a cease and desist, and we leveraged criminal charges against Mr. Davenport... And subsequently learned the building was still operating the next day."
The State Fire Marshal is currently working to have a permanent injunction issued. Tuesday, investigators paid a visit to the group home to make sure it was still closed.
Earlier this year, we met Eric Davenport when we were reporting on issues at the group home he was tied to.
"Move your car before I run over it," Davenport said.
Davenport also answered the door at another group home we featured with deplorable conditions. The stories done by the WBRZ Investigative Unit led to State Senator Regina Barrow creating a task force to come up with possible legislation to create more regulations on group homes.
Attempts to reach Davenport about his latest issues were unsuccessful today.
