Juban Crossing set to resume construction
DENHAM SPRINGS - The developer of the Juban Crossing retail center in Livingston Parish announced Thursday another retailer had signed on to the complex, and promised construction would begin soon.
Stephen Keller with Creekstone Companies said Belk had signed on to be an anchor retailer for the center. They join T.J. Maxx, Michael's, Rouse's supermarket, Bed Bath & Beyond, Petsmart, Ulta Salon, Shoe Carnival and Old Navy as stores which have committed to Juban Crossing.
The retail center faced a number of funding setbacks which delayed work at the site near I-12 and Juban Road. Keller said enough funding was put in place earlier this week for utility and other horizontal site work to begin soon.
"Since our initial conception of Juban Crossing, we knew that the people of Livingston Parish deserved first-rate retail options close to where they live and play," Keller said in a press release. "While the ever-changing landscape of the national economy has presented its challenges over the past years and months, we have never wavered on that dedication and that vision."
Phase one of the three-phase project includes a 14-screen movie theater, national chain restaurants and a drugstore. That's set to open in October 2014. Livingston Parish residents we spoke with today say they can't wait.
"I think it's very exciting. I think it will be a good shot in the arm for Livingston Parish as a whole and for our Denham Springs community," said Jimmy Bamber.
"I'm glad they got the kinks worked out," said Sara Easterly. "I'm glad all the problems are gone and that this project can move forward for the growth of Livingston Parish."
Livingston Parish President Layton Ricks says Juban Crossing will change the parish.
"The economic impact this is going to have on the parish, the creation of jobs this is going to have on the parish... It's just going to be fantastic for Livingston Parish," he said.
The project will feature roughly 1.2 million square feet of retail space when all three phases are complete.
