Job fair for vets

BATON ROUGE - A spokesperson from the Mayor's office said the first two hours of the upcoming Spring Job Fair will be reserved for veterans only before being open to other job seekers.

The Spring Job Fair, hosted by the Mayor's Business and Career Solutions Center, will be on Thursday, May 29 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Belle of Baton Rouge Atrium on France St.

The turnout for a similar job fair last fall was so impressive that organizers decided to extend the event by an hour and arrange for a larger venue, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

Veterans of the armed forces seeking employment will receive top preference and will be granted early access to the event starting at 9 a.m and followed by an address by Mayor-President "Kip" Holden at 9:15 a.m. The general public will be allowed entry beginning at 11 a.m.

The Mayor's office said more than 50 employers and 400 job seekers are expected to turn out for the event and that job seekers should bring their résumés and come dressed for success.
