Jags film study class
BATON ROUGE - The Southern Jaguars football team is learning their defense just like any new subject in school.
It may be a traditional way to teach and learn something, but this type of studying isn't common in football film rooms.
The idea stemmed from defensive secondary coach Marty Biagi challenging his defensive players to know their assignments well enough to teach it to their incoming teammates.
"If you say it, hear it, draw it, present it, teach it, those kind of examples," said Biagi. "Then I should be able to on film see it go from the classroom to the play on the field."
Head coach Dawson Odums likes the results he's seen from his players.
"If you take teaching in a format to where your students can give it back then they arent learning," said the second-year head coach. "The number one muscle that we have to use to create some consistency is our mind."
Sports 2's Brian Holland went inside the classroom with the Jags and has more from the Bluff.
