IRS targeting draws ire from local political groups

BATON ROUGE- A report showing agents at the IRS targeted conservative groups who applied for tax exemptions drew the ire of local political groups.

The IRS didn't target the Tea Party of Louisiana, but the group still believes it's a violation of their freedom of speech.

"When you use the IRS in this fashion, you're basically limiting free speech, and that's not good for any of us," said Cecil Cavanaugh with the Tea Party of Louisiana.

Some are calling for accountability to restore the trust lost by many Americans.

"The president ought to lead the investigation to fire his appointees and send the bureaucrats to prison who have violated our trust," said former Governor Buddy Roemer.

U.S. Senators David Vitter and Mary Landrieu both told News 2 that the report was troubling and they expect some punishment for those responsible.
