Investigators search for car in intentional hit-and-run
DENHAM SPRINGS - Investigators are searching for a driver who used his car as a weapon after intentionally hitting a motorcyclist and fleeing near Range Avenue in Denham Springs, Saturday night.
The raw emotion of a terrifying trip captured on camera as a driver knocked a biker off his motorcycle. It started on I-12 as three motorcyclists were driving home from Baton Rouge. Two of the motorcyclists are father and son.
"The bike can be replaced but my son can't," said Casey Brooks.
Brooks says it all began when he noticed a silver Honda Civic swerving between the lanes of the interstate. He says he thought the driver was texting or intoxicated.
"He looks over at me and I look at him I'm like ok, so I drop behind to try to get his license plate with my go pro," said Brooks.
The driver all of a sudden started tailgating him and then quickly cuts right around Brooks in the emergency lanes on the interstate. Brooks say after that that's when he tried to get as far as he could away from the driver, but the driver continued to follow the motorcyclists. The driver ended up striking his son's motorcycle around the Denham Springs exit and then left the scene.
"Initially, I didn't think he was trying to cause any harm to us," said Alex Cameron, who's motorcycle was hit by driver. "He missed me by three inches and you know if he'd would have hit me there, I very easily wouldn't be standing right here."
The Father and son pair immediately filed a police report after the incident.
The Denham Springs Police Department confirms to WBRZ it is investigating this crash and they want to question the driver of the Honda Civic.
As for Brooks, he has a new fear of the road.
"This guy got upset about something," said Brooks. "I mean it completely destroyed something that me and him enjoyed doing together."
Investigators say the driver could face multiple criminal charges once caught.
